Divvi digital Island
Limitations make for good social media, like Twitter’s character limit, IG’s square format or SnapChat’s disappearing messages. A good social platform shouldn’t impose any “vibe” onto its users. It’s simplicity should force creative ways to game the system.
Our barrier to entry - players either submit an original project to be sold on the island or purchase a project from an existing player. If you chose the latter, you’re given the “fan avatar” or “NPC avatar” designated by that project’s creator. If you chose the former, and your project is vetted , you can design your own avatar.
The limitations- All player’s avitars are limited to 6bit like Space Invaders. All text and animation is limited to 8bit. All points of sale or Thumbnails must be presented in a square format.
Every post must be a point-of sale. Even if the post itself is free, like a music video or movie trailer, the post must promote a product within the island’s economy. A comedian may post reels for free but that reel must link to a pay-per-view special even it only costs a buck. To interact with that funny reel , for example, you must either be a player or have purchased that product. This disincentivizes trolling or “bottomfeeding”. In order to badmouth a post you have to own it. Even if a post gets “ratioed” it net benefits the player. With this dynamic only satirical or “so bad it’s good” content will elevate in the game’s news feed. The scrolling experience is always ad free because every post is, in one way or another, an ad. The minimum cost is a penny, but youn filter out penny posts if you wish to avoid bottomfeeders. The cheaper the cost likely cheaper the conversations. You can also filter conversations by players and NPCs
A Player’s feed uses a genre based algorhytm. On the back end, you can select “genres and styles” to base your feed. If you only want say current events, you may only see Thumbnails linking to Substack articles or clips of intellectuals pontificating. In this case, your selected genres are PODCASTS/ARTCICLES and your styles might be GEOPOLITICSthe point-of-sale is not within the divvi economy, but the post itself becomes a paid advertisement. The minimum cost is a penny, but youn filter out penny posts if you wish to avoid bottomfeeders.
